Mobile Robots –
General Requirements and Test Methods

[Introduction]

Mobile robots are increasingly deployed across industrial and service environments, supporting a wide range of applications and operational needs. As the mobile robot industry continues to expand, establishing a common foundation for product specifications and performance evaluation has become increasingly important.

AMRA-201 specifies general requirements and test methods for mobile robots operating on solid travel surfaces, providing a consistent framework for both manufacturers and users. Manufacturers may adopt this standard as a baseline for product design and specification development, while users can apply it to evaluate and compare products under objective and consistent conditions. By promoting a shared understanding of fundamental requirements, this standard contributes to improved communication, product transparency, and ecosystem development across the mobile robot industry.

This standard was developed by experts in Working Group #1 (WG1), reviewed by the Technical Committee, and approved by the Board.

[Scope]

This technical standard specifies general requirements for mobile robots, including the charging stations. The intended environments in which mobile robots operate on a surface are industrial, service, or both environments.

Note 1: The wheeled robots, legged robots, tracked robots, and other robots that meet the definition of “mobile robot” in ISO 8373:2021, 4.15, are covered by this standard.

Note 2: The environment can be multiple terrains, except underwater or in the air.
